เพลงพระราชนิพนธ์ลำดับที่ 11

          เพลงพระราชนิพนธ์ลำดับที่ 11 ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์เมื่อวันศุกร์ที่ 18 กุมภาพันธ์ พุทธศักราช ๒๔๙๒ เป็นเพลงพระราชนิพนธ์เพลงแรกที่ใช้ Pentatonic Scale คือ 5 เสียง แทน Scale แบบสิบสองเสียง (Chromatic Scale) ศาสตราจารย์หม่อมราชวงศ์สุมนชาติ สวัสดิกุล ได้ขอพระราชทานเพลงประจำจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จึงทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานทำนองเพลงพระราชนิพนธ์นี้ให้ไปใส่คำร้องเอง ท่านผู้หญิงสมโรจน์สวัสดิกุล ณ อยุธยา และนายสุภร ผลชีวิน จึงไปประพันธ์คำร้องถวาย

          ต่อมาในพุทธศักราช 2497 ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้นายเทวาประสิทธิ์ พาทยโกศล นำทำนองเพลงพระราชนิพนธ์ “มหาจุฬาลงกรณ์” แต่งเป็นทางไทย นายเทวาประสิทธิ์รับพระราชทานมาทำและบรรเลงถวายด้วยวงปี่พาทย์ถึงสองครั้ง ภายหลังเมื่อนายเทวาประสิทธิ์ไปสอนในชมรมดนตรีสโมสรนิสิตจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จึงได้นำเพลงพระราชนิพนธ์นี้มาปรับปรุงเป็นเพลงโหมโรง สำหรับใช้โหมโรงในการบรรเลงดนตรีไทยของชมรม เป็นเพลงไทยเพลงแรกที่เรียบเรียงจากโน้ตเพลงไทยสากล

 

Royal Composition Number 11

          The eleventh royal musical composition was written on Friday, 18 February 1949. It was the first royal composition to have used the pentatonic scale with 5 notes instead of the 12-note chromatic scale used so far. Professor Mom Rajawong Sumonchati Swasdikul then requested a theme song to be granted to Chulalongkorn University. His Majesty thus gave him the new tune to put to the lyrics himself. Thanpuying Somroj Swasdikul Na Ayudhya and Mr.  Suporn Polcheewin therefore presented His Majesty the lyrics.

          Later in 1954, His Majesty requested Mr. Taywaprasit Phattayakosol to arrange the melody of the composition "Maha Chulalongkorn " in the classical Thai musical mode. The classical Thai music master complied and made a command performance by a full classical Thai orchestra twice, Later when Mr. Taywaprasit taught at the Classical Thai Music Student Club of Chulalongkorn University, he brought this royal composition to be adapted into an overtune for the Classical Thai Music Club performance. It became the first classsical Thai number to be arranged from Western notation.
